Economic Relations Secretary Dammu Ravi has said that the two-day BRICS summit assumes significant importance in the context of the fast-changing global developments. Briefing media in Rio De Janeiro, Mr Ravi said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit assumes added importance as India will be taking over the chair of BRICS next year. He added that Prime Minister Modi reiterated that the global organisations of the 20th century could not deal with the challenges of the 21st century and therefore, he underscored the importance of reforming the multilateral organisations. Mr Ravi also informed that Mr Modi called for a multipolar, an inclusive world order and stated that the global governance institutions, particularly the UN Security Council, the IMF, the World Bank and the WTO, must undergo urgent reform to reflect the contemporary realities and times.
Mr Ravi also informed that Prime Minister Modi highlighted that BRICS could play an important role in shaping a multipolar world. He added that Mr Modi also gave a few suggestions in terms of considering setting up a science and research repository in the BRICS group. Underlining the Pahalgam terrorist attack, Mr Ravi said, all the members have supported India and expressed solidarity and strong condemnation of the attack. He also informed that Mr Modi underscored that the attack in Pahalgam is an onslaught on the entire humanity.
