India’s 79th Independence Day is being celebrated in Sri Lanka. Remembering the sacrifices of Indian forces, High Commissioner of India, Santosh Jha laid a wreath at the IPKF monument in Colombo today morning.
 
He also hoisted the tricolour and read out excerpts from the President’s message on the eve of Independence Day. Students of Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre presented cultural performances in line with the patriotic fervour.
 
On the occasion, Sri Lankan Naval Band also performed patriotic songs including Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja. Other Diplomatic offices in Sri Lanka at Jaffna, Kandy and Hambantota also held the celebrations at the respective locations.
