The life-saving mission was carried out aboard the Mumbai Central-Gandhinagar Capital Vande Bharat Express, marking a significant advancement in emergency medical logistics and demonstrating the growing role of the railway network in supporting critical healthcare operations.
The heart was transported from Surat to Ahmedabad on Train No. 20901 for an urgent transplant procedure at the renowned U.N. Mehta Institute of Cardiology and Research Centre. Thanks to the speed, punctuality, and operational efficiency of the Vande Bharat Express, the organ reached its destination within the strict viability window required for a successful heart transplant.
The operation required exceptional planning and seamless coordination among multiple agencies. Indian Railways worked closely with the Gujarat Police, the Railway Protection Force (RPF), medical professionals, transplant coordinators, and hospital authorities to ensure that every stage of the transportation process was executed without delay.
Upon the train’s arrival at Ahmedabad railway station, officials immediately activated a specially designed green corridor.
