The Indian men’s hockey team suffered a 5-4 defeat to hosts Australia in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw at full-time in their FIH Pro League match at the Tasmania Hockey Centre yesterday. Amit Rohidas gave India the lead in the 15th minute, and Jugraj Singh doubled in the 43rd. However, a brace from Joel Rintala in the 47th and 56th minutes brought world number three Australia back on level terms. With the match tied after regulation time, the contest went into a shootout. Both teams converted their first four attempts, but Aditya Lalage was denied by goalkeeper Jed Snowden in the final round, handing Australia a hard-fought win. India will next face Spain in their third match of the Hobart leg tomorrow.
