Snapping a winning streak of the last two sessions, the BSE Sensex on Monday dropped 670.83 pts to settle at 71,355.24 as selling was witnessed in FMCG, Metal, Bankex and Financial Services stocks.

The National Stock Exchange (NSE) slipped 197.80 pts at 21,513.

The NSE was days high and low at 21,763.95 and 21,492.90 pts respectively.

The Sensex opened at 72,113.25, rising 87 pts. During the day it was registered days high at 72,181.77, up 155 pts.

Later, it nosedived 725 pts at 71,301.04, days low, before closing at 71,355.24, slumping 670.93 prs from its previous close.

The stocks that dragged the market were FMCG, Metal, Bankex and Financial Services.

FMCG was fell by 1.55 pc, Metal by 1.40 pc, Bankex by 1.42 pc, Financial Services by 1.05.

The Mid Cap eased by 0.87 pc and Small Cap by 0.36 pc.

In 30 scrips, 6 advanced while 24 down.

The losers were SBI by 2.31 pc to Rs 627.05, Tech Mahindra by 2.09 pc to Rs 1223, ITC by 1.80 pc to Rs 465.35, Asian Paints by 1.76 pc to Rs 3296.45 and M M by 1.64 pc to Rs 1615.25.

The gainers were Power grid by 0.46 pc to Rs 242.40, Sun Pharma by 0.44 pc to Rs 1305.60, NTPC by 0.43 pc to Rs 316.35.
