Gandhinagar (Gujarat): India and Australia have finalised the Australia-India Education Qualification Recognition Mechanism which will give recognition to Indian degrees in Australia, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said Wednesday.

Under the scheme, the qualifications earned in Australia will also be recognised in India, he added.

This will be beneficial to Indians, who go to Australia to work and settle, after studying in India as well as Indians looking to head back home after studying there.

Albanese, who is on a visit to India, was speaking at a programme in Gujarats Gandhinagar to officially announce that Australias Deakin University will set up an international branch campus at GIFT City in Gujarats Gandhinagar.

@Deakin University will also become the first foreign university approved to open a campus in India – with more Australian universities hoping to join them.

The development provides the Australian education sector with commercial opportunities to offer more innovative and accessible education to students in India.

He emphasised that the mechanism provides a solid basis for educational institutions to find ways to partner with each other.

The Australian PM also announced Maitri scholarships for Indian students to study in Australia for up to four years.

This scholarship is part of a wider Maitri programme that seeks to boost cultural, educational and community ties between Australia and India, he said.
