The Indian Pickleball Association (IPA), the recognised National Sports Federation for Pickleball under the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, officially concluded its landmark two-day selection trials today at the IPA Centre of Excellence in Ahmedabad.
The trials marked a historic step for Indian pickleball, with over 140 top players from across the country competing for a place on the national team. Selections were made in three categories: Open,Under-16, and 50+.
For the first time, India will send an official national pickleball contingent to the Pickleball World Cup, scheduled to take place in Florida, USA, from October 27 to November 2, under the sanction of the Global Pickleball Federation.
Following the trials, the selected players will enter a focused training and preparation phase under the guidance of the IPA’s high-performance team before departing for the international event.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, Aalap Sharma, Treasurer and Chairman of the Selection Committee, called it a “proud and historic moment for Indian pickleball,” adding that the event would inspire more athletes to take up this fast-growing sport.
