India will host the first Global South Film Festival next year. It was announced today at a press conference held on the sidelines of the BRICS WAVES Bazaar in Mumbai. Several agreements aimed at strengthening international cooperation in the film and entertainment sector were also announced.

Organisations including the National Film Development Corporation (NFDC) and the National Film Archive of India (NFAI) signed agreements, exchanged Letters of Intent and held talks with partner institutions from countries including Brazil, Russia and Vietnam. The participating organisations also agreed to explore opportunities for film co-production.

The two-day WAVES BRICS Bazaar, which opened in Mumbai yesterday, concludes this evening. Prakash Magdum, Managing Director of the NFDC, said the initiative brought together more than 900 delegates from the 20 BRICS member and partner countries. Around 250 meetings were held during the one-and-a-half-day event, providing a platform for government agencies, entertainment industry professionals, investors and content creators to exchange ideas and explore opportunities for collaboration.
