In Group B action, Scotland defeated Ireland by 40 runs at Old Trafford in Manchester on Friday. Batting first, Scotland scored 161 for 5 in 20 overs. Ireland were then bowled out for 121 in 19.1 overs. Scotland captain Kathryn Bryce was named Player of the Match for her all-round performance, scoring 60 runs and taking two wickets.
Earlier in the tournament opener, hosts England beat Sri Lanka by 87 runs at Edgbaston on Friday. The month-long competition is being held across England and Wales, with the final scheduled at Lord’s Cricket Ground on the 5th of next month.
