India thrash Maldives 11-nil in opening Group B match of SAFF Women’s Football Championship

In football, India thrashed the Maldives 11-nil in their opening Group B match of the SAFF Women’s Championship in Margao, Goa, yesterday.
Aveka Singh starred for the hosts with four goals, while Priyangka Naorem and Karishma scored a brace each. Pyari Xaxa, Dangmei Grace, and Sangita Basfore also found the net to complete the dominant victory.
Ranked 69th in the world, India’s women’s team asserted control from the outset against the 167th-ranked Maldives, rarely allowing their opponents a foothold in the match.
The five-time SAFF Women’s Championship winners India will face reigning champions Bangladesh in their next match on Sunday.
