Secretary of Sports Hari Ranjan Rao today said India is targeting a major expansion in exports of sports goods from over 3 thousand crore to over 80 thousand crore. He called on manufacturers to scale up nearly 25 times to achieve this goal. Addressing the 4th edition of the India Sporting Goods Fair 2026, he termed the present phase a golden period for the sports goods industry. Emphasising the need for a bold and forward-looking approach, Mr Rao urged the industry to think big, expand globally and invest in innovation. He stressed the importance of youth and next-generation entrepreneurs in driving the sector’s growth. He also called for India to host the world’s largest sports goods exhibition with global participation. Reaffirming government support, Rao said over 500 crore rupees have been allocated in the Union Budget for the sector.
