Indian boxers continued their impressive run at the Boxing World Cup Stage 2 in China, with Jyoti, Prachi, and Nikhil securing crucial victories on the second day of competition to advance in their respective categories at the Guiyang Olympic Sports Centre Gymnasium.

The trio delivered strong performances against international opponents, keeping India’s medal hopes alive and maintaining momentum in the prestigious tournament.

In the women’s 57kg category, Prachi produced a commanding display against the United States’ Deborah Grant. The Indian boxer dominated proceedings from the opening bell and earned a unanimous 5-0 verdict from the judges. Her convincing victory ensured progression to the next stage of the competition and highlighted her growing confidence on the international stage.

Another standout performer for India was Jyoti in the women’s 48kg division. Facing Mongolia’s Enkh Amgalan Nomundari, Jyoti showcased superior technique and aggression throughout the contest. The referee stopped the bout in the second round, awarding the Indian boxer victory through a Referee Stops Contest (RSC) decision.

The win carried added significance as it propelled Jyoti into the semifinals of her category, guaranteeing India at least a bronze medal. Her advancement marks one of the country’s biggest achievements so far in the tournament and strengthens India’s prospects for an even higher podium finish.

Meanwhile, Nikhil battled through a closely contested encounter in the men’s 55kg category against France’s Christopher Hippocrate. In one of the most competitive bouts of the day, Nikhil edged past his opponent with a narrow 3-2 split decision. The hard-fought victory reflected his determination and resilience under pressure, earning him a place in the next round.

While several Indian boxers celebrated success, there were also disappointments for the contingent. Poonam suffered a narrow 2-3 defeat against Chinese Taipei’s Hsiao Wen Huang in the women’s 54kg category. Akash also lost by an identical 2-3 margin to Poland’s Mateusz Urban in the men’s 75kg division.

In the women’s 70kg category, Gitimoni faced a difficult challenge against France’s Maelys Richol and was eliminated after a 0-5 unanimous decision defeat.

Attention now shifts to Day 3, where five Indian boxers will enter the ring aiming to continue the country’s strong campaign. Nikhil will face Brazil’s Kelvy Trindade in the men’s 55kg category, while Deepak is scheduled to take on Japan’s Sewon Okazawa in the 70kg division.

Malsawmtluanga will compete against Jordan’s Ashaish Hussein in the men’s 80kg category. In the women’s events, Saneh will face South Korea’s Seon Sujin in the 65kg class, while Mahi Lama is set to meet Mongolia’s Monkhor Namuun in the 60kg division.
