India reach 300/5 at stumps on Day 1 of 2nd Test against Sri Lanka

In Cricket, India were 300 for 5 in their first innings against hosts Sri Lanka at stumps on Day 1 of the second and final Test in Colombo. Dhruv Jurel and Saransh Jain remained unbeaten when stumps were drawn this evening. Devdutt Padikkal continued his impressive form, scoring his second consecutive Test century. He made 117 off 193 balls, while skipper Shubman Gill also scored a half-century. For Sri Lanka, Asitha Fernando took three wickets.

 
Earlier, India won the toss and opted to bat. Madhya Pradesh all-rounder Saransh Jain made his Test debut for India, while Kamil Mishara debuted for Sri Lanka. 
 
India won the first Test by 165 runs and currently lead the two-match series 1- nil. Team India will look to win the second Test and complete a series whitewash, while Sri Lanka will aim to level the series. 
 
India needs to win this match also to move into fourth place in the race for the 2025-27 World Test Championship final. Australia is at the top, followed by South Africa and New Zealand.
