India in commanding position with 536 run lead on final day as England resume their second innings today –

Must Read

In Cricket, India has surged into a commanding position in the second Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

As play resumes this afternoon, England trails by a massive 536 runs, with Ollie Pope unbeaten on 24 and Harry Brook on 15, as the hosts ended Day 4 on 72 for 3. The match will resume at 3:30 PM Indian Standard Time.

Earlier on Day 4, Indian skipper Shubman Gill delivered one of the greatest individual performances in Test history. Gill amassed 430 runs across both innings, 269 in the first and 161 in the second, recording the second-highest aggregate in a Test match, behind only Graham Gooch’s 456 against India in 1990 at Lord’s.

India’s second innings was further bolstered by valuable contributions from KL Rahul with 55 runs, Rishabh Pant with 65 runs, and Ravindra Jadeja, who remained unbeaten on 69, helping the visitors set a mammoth lead of 608 runs before declaring. This left England facing the second-highest fourth-innings target ever set against them in Test history.

In reply, England got off to a poor start, reduced to 72 for 3 by stumps. Mohammed Siraj removed Zak Crawley, while Akash Deep struck twice to dismiss Ben Duckett and Joe Root.
