In Hockey, India defeated Uruguay 3-2 to register their third consecutive win and finish on top of Pool A in the FIH Women’s Nations Cup in New Zealand today. After conceding an early goal, India staged a strong comeback with Deepika scoring twice and Deepika Soreng adding another goal. Uruguay had taken the lead through Chiara Appennino in the 13th minute, before Deepika equalised through a penalty corner in the 24th minute.
Soreng then put India ahead with a field goal in the 43rd minute. Uruguay captain Manuela Vilar restored parity in the 55th minute, but Deepika struck again a minute later to seal the victory for India. With three wins from three matches, India topped Pool A and advanced to the semifinals, where they will face Chile on Saturday. The match also marked a significant milestone for Neha, who completed 200 international appearances for India.
