India-China relations gradually moving in positive direction: EAM Jaishankar

Must Read

External Affairs Minister Dr. S. Jaishankar today said that India-China relations are gradually moving in a positive direction. Delivering opening remarks during a meeting with his Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in Beijing, Dr. Jaishankar said that both countries have made good progress in the past nine months toward normalising bilateral relations.

He underlined that this progress is the result of resolving friction along the border and the ability to maintain peace and tranquillity there. Dr. Jaishankar emphasised that this forms the fundamental basis for mutual strategic trust and the smooth development of bilateral relations. He added that it is now incumbent upon both sides to address other aspects related to the border, including de-escalation.

Dr. Jaishankar highlighted that, as neighbouring nations and major global economies, there are various facets and dimensions to India-China ties. He underlined that measures toward normalising people-to-people exchanges could foster mutually beneficial cooperation.

He underscored that stable and constructive ties between India and China will not only benefit these two countries but the world as a whole. He suggested that this is best achieved by handling relations based on mutual respect, mutual interest, and mutual sensitivity. He further mentioned that both sides had previously agreed that differences should not become disputes, nor should competition ever evolve into conflict, emphasising that the two countries can now continue to develop their ties along a positive trajectory.

Dr. Jaishankar also mentioned that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, and appreciated that the Kailash Manasarovar Yatra has resumed after a gap of five years. He thanked the Chinese side for their cooperation on this matter.
