India has called for greater access to finance, technology transfer and capacity-building to accelerate the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals, with poverty eradication remaining a key priority.
Delivering India’s statement at the UN General Assembly’s Second Committee discussion on Sustainable Development, Counsellor Soumya Nair highlighted the country’s progress in clean energy, noting that non-fossil fuel sources now account for 55 per cent of India’s installed electricity generation capacity. She also highlighted India’s early warning capabilities and its offer to host the Fourth UN World Conference on Disaster Risk Reduction in 2030.
Ms Nair underscored India’s commitment to global partnerships through initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure and the Global Biofuels Alliance. She also reaffirmed India’s support for Small Island Developing States.
