India Begins Campaign with Wins in Both Men’s and Women’s Categories at Asia Rugby U-20

The Asia Rugby Under-20 Sevens Championship matches have started from today. The opening match was played at the International Sports Complex in Rajgir. In the first match of the championship and in the men’s category, Sri Lanka defeated Hong Kong.
 
 
In the men’s category, India began their campaign with a victory. India scored 24 points to defeat the United Arab Emirates. In another match played this afternoon in the men’s category, Sri Lanka defeated host India.
 
 
Meanwhile, in the women’s category, the Indian team secured a win in their first match by defeating Kazakhstan. The Indian men’s team is led by Sumit Kumar Rai, while the women’s team captain is Bhumika Shukla. Today’s first four men’s matches witnessed big upsets, close contests, and excellent gameplay. In their second match, Hong Kong thrashed badly the United Arab Emirates by 27-NIL. In the match between Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan dominated, winning 12-0. Malaysia had to settle for a draw against Kazakhstan, but in another match, Malaysia defeated China.
 
 
In the women’s matches, China defeated Sri Lanka by a massive margin of 55-0. Sri Lanka then gained momentum by defeating Nepal in the next match. For the Nepalese girls, the opening day was not good, as they lost their first match against Uzbekistan.
 
 
A total of 24 matches are scheduled to be played today and will continue till 8:45 PM. The final match of the championship will be held tomorrow. This is the first time the Asia Rugby Under-20 Championship is being held in Rajgir in Bihar.
 
 
 
A total of 16 teams from 9 countries are participating in this tournament. Besides India, the participating countries are China, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, Sri Lanka, Malaysia, and Nepal. A total of 192 players, 32 coaches, and 50 technical officials are involved in the event.
