The performance lifted India’s medal count at the championships to eight. Sandip Sanjay Sargar struck gold with a personal best of 62.82 meters in his fifth attempt, becoming the world champion. Sandeep Chaudhary set a Season’s best of 62.67 meters to claim the second spot. Brazil’s Edenilson Roberto earned the bronze with a throw of 62.36 meters.
