IMD issues orange alert for Northeast India; 19 dead in weather-related incidents across Arunachal, Bihar –

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert over Northeast India, including Assam, Meghalaya. Mizoram, Manipur, Nagaland and Tripura. Talking to Akashvani News, IMD scientist Dr R K Jenamani said that heavy to very heavy rainfall will continue over the Northeastern states till the next 2 days and decrease in intensity thereafter.
 
In Arunachal Pradesh, incessant heavy rain has disrupted normal life across the state. According to the State Department Disaster Management, 12 people have lost their lives in rain-related incidents till yesterday evening.
 
Bihar is experiencing a mix of weather conditions. While life has been affected by rains and strong winds in the Western and North Eastern parts of the state, districts in South Bihar are grappling with severe heat and heatwave conditions.The Meteorological Department has issued a warning for the next 48 hours, predicting strong winds, rain, and thunderstorms in the Kishanganj, Saharsa, Araria, Sitamarhi, and Muzaffarpur areas. Meanwhile, due to rain in the basin areas of Nepal’s seasonal rivers, the rivers flowing into Araria, Kishanganj, and Purnia districts from Nepal are in spate.
 
In recent days, strong winds have caused devastation in several districts of the state. Last evening, due to the strong winds in the Siwan district, a large number of trees were uprooted in several areas. At least seven people died in separate incidents due to these events in the Siwan district. In Madhubani, strong winds led to the snapping of Overhead Equipment(OHE) lines, disrupting power supply and affecting train operations. Train services between Madhubani and Rajnagar rail sections were restored late last night. In South Bihar, areas including Rohtas, Bhojpur, and Buxar are experiencing heat wave-like conditions with mercury soaring above 40 degrees Celsius.
