Kolkata/IBNS: Despite the Trinamool Congress (TMC)s landslide victory in the 2021 assembly elections, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee was defeated by BJPs Suvendu Adhikari by close to 2,000 votes.

Though initially Mamata was declared winner, later it was reported that Adhikari turned out to be the winner in the high-voltage seat.

Following this, Mamata moved the Calcutta High Court challenging the result alleging foul play.

Addressing a rally for the Lok Sabha polls, Mamata, who heads the TMC, said in Haldia, I was betrayed on the result day. It was a conspiracy. They (BJP) did rigging.

With the help of Election Commission, BJP changed police officers and they changed the result with the help of loadshedding. I will definitely take revenge in the coming days.

Mamata said this in Haldia, which falls under the Nandigram assembly constituency.

After quitting the TMC, Adhikari, who was once Mamatas confidante, jumped the BJP ahead of the 2021 assembly elections.

After he won from Nandigram, BJP picked Adhikari as the Leader of Opposition of the state, where the saffron camp had won 77 seats.
