‘Hosting Laden and attacking neighbouring Parliament…’: Jaishankar hits back at Pakistan over Kashmir at UN

Must Read

New Delhi/IBNS: Indias External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has strongly responded to Pakistans raising of the Jammu and Kashmir issue, the flashpoint between the two Asian countries, at the United Nations Security Council or UNSC.

Jaishankar bluntly told the UNSC, We are obviously focused today on the urgency of reforming multilateralism. We will naturally have our particular views, but there is a growing convergence at least that this cannot be delayed any further.

The top minister in the Modi government added, While we search for the best solutions, what our discourse must never accept is the normalisation of such threats. The question of justifying what the world regards as unacceptable should not even arise.

That certainly applies to state sponsorship of cross-border terrorism. Nor can hosting Osama bin Laden and attacking a neighbouring Parliament serve as credentials to sermonize before this Council.

Jaishankar has been referring to the 2001 terrorist attack which was carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorist outfits, Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), in Indias Parliament in New Delhi.

The strenuous relationship between New Delhi and Islamabad further deteriorated post 2019 after the Modi government took one of the boldest decisions to abrogate Article 370 and 35A in Kashmir.

Though Kashmir is an internal matter of India, Pakistan has repeatedly tried to internationalise the issue at various international platforms.
