Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma accuses Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi of being a “Pakistani agent” allegedly planted by foreign powers, promising to reveal proof soon. SIT submits report on Gogoi’s alleged Pakistan link amid political turmoil in Assam.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma has once again ignited a political storm by calling Congress leader Gaurav Gogoi a “Pakistani agent,” claiming that he was “planted by foreign powers” in India. The explosive remarks came on Friday during a media briefing in Guwahati, intensifying the already fierce political rivalry between the ruling BJP and the Congress in the northeastern state.

‘Pakistani Agent’ Remark Triggers Political Uproar

Speaking to reporters, CM Sarma said, “Gaurav Gogoi has not uttered a single word against the person who sang Bangladesh’s national anthem inside the Congress party office. He is a Pakistani agent. I challenge the Assam Congress president to file a defamation case against me if he has the courage.”

The Chief Minister’s statement quickly sparked outrage among Congress circles and political observers, with many terming it a deliberate attempt to malign Gogoi ahead of key electoral contests in the state.

Claims of Foreign Influence and Alleged Proof

Taking his allegations further, CM Sarma claimed he possessed “definite proof” that Gaurav Gogoi had connections with foreign elements working against India’s interests. “I have extensive information about his links,” Sarma asserted. “If there were no elections in the state, I would have acted more strictly. If I act now, people will say it is politically motivated. But the quantum of information I have is such that Gaurav Gogoi would not be moving freely in the state.”

The Chief Minister hinted that he had previously withheld documentary evidence on September 10, suggesting that he would disclose them at a “more appropriate time.” Sarma further added that once ongoing investigations—particularly concerning the tragic death of singer Zubeen Garg—were completed, he would hold a detailed press conference exposing Gogoi’s alleged ties.

SIT Submits Report on Gogoi’s Alleged Pakistan Link

In a parallel development, the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the alleged Pakistan link of Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi has submitted its detailed report to the Chief Minister. The report, handed over on September 10, marks a significant step in what has become one of Assam’s most high-profile political controversies.

According to government sources, the SIT’s findings are based on digital forensic analysis, intelligence coordination, and scrutiny of communication and financial records purportedly connected to the case. The report also includes witness statements and technical evidence collected during the inquiry.

While the details of the report remain classified, officials hinted that it could potentially form the basis for further legal or administrative action once reviewed by the state government.

Political Fallout and Reactions

The BJP and Congress have been engaged in fierce political battles across Assam, and this latest accusation has further widened the rift. Gaurav Gogoi, a sitting MP and one of the Congress’s most prominent faces in the Northeast, has yet to issue an official statement responding to CM Sarma’s allegations.

Political analysts believe the timing of the accusation—close to upcoming elections—could be strategic. “Such statements tend to polarize public opinion,” said a political observer. “It’s part of a larger pattern of political messaging intended to put the opposition on the defensive.”

A Deepening Political Divide

Himanta Biswa Sarma, known for his combative political style, has often targeted the Congress and its leadership in Assam. However, the “Pakistani agent” claim marks an unprecedented escalation in rhetoric, suggesting a new phase in Assam’s volatile political discourse.

As the SIT’s findings await official review, and with Sarma promising to make his alleged proof public at a later date, the controversy surrounding Gaurav Gogoi’s alleged foreign connections is set to dominate Assam’s political narrative in the coming weeks.

Whether this marks a genuine national security concern or a politically charged allegation will depend on what evidence—if any—is ultimately brought to light. For now, the political tension in Assam continues to mount, with both parties bracing for the next chapter in this unfolding confrontation.
