The Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER) has announced the formation of a high-level task force to promote investment in North East India. The task force will be headed by Chief Minister Dr. Manik Saha of Tripura, who will serve as the Convener. Other members include the Union Minister of DoNER and the Chief Ministers of Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Sikkim.
The primary objective of the task force is to create a comprehensive roadmap aimed at establishing North East India as a preferred destination for investment. The roadmap, which is expected to be submitted within the next six months, will focus on vital sectors such as infrastructure development, agriculture, tourism, logistics, IT, and renewable energy. Key initiatives include the creation of agro-processing zones, tourism circuits, IT parks, and renewable energy corridors. Additionally, strategies for attracting both domestic and international investments will be formulated, with a focus on Public-Private Partnership (PPP) models and policy reforms to boost sectoral growth.
The decision to form this task force was made during the 72nd plenary meeting of the North Eastern Council, held in Agartala on 21 December 2024.
