A high level delegation of Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) led by Dr. Ausaf Sayeed, Secretary (CPV&OIA) called on Chief Minister DR Manik Saha on Tuesday as part of their outreach program. Chief Minister was updated on MEA’s efforts on citizen centric approach towards functioning of passport offices and Protector of Emigrant (PoE) offices. He also discussed in detail about safe and legal channel of migration and MEA’s priorities in opening a new PoE office at Agartala.
Secretary was accompanied by Bramha Kumar, Protector General of Emigrants (PGE) and Dr. Surabhi Singh, Chief Administrative Officer of India Center for Migration (ICM).
Overseas employment opportunities, skilling of youth to the international standards, export of agricultural products, setting up food processing units for value addition were among other points discussed during the meeting. Promotion of Tourism, Medical Tourism and investment into state were discussed as priority sector for the Tripura government.
The Chief Minister mentioned State government efforts in this sector and said that he would further coordinate with Government of India to bring out outcome oriented programs. The delegation was also received by Smt Santana Chakma, Minister for Industry and Commerce and Shri Kumar Alok Chief Secretary. The delegation also visited proposed location of PoE office at Labour Department, National Skill Training Institute and Tripura Tea Board during their visit.
It is believed that with the new initiatives that the MEA mooted Tripura tourism sector would get boost. Apart from that the foreign investment opportunities would also be brighter in new future.
