In July, Tripura witnessed heavy rainfall that resulted in disastrous consequences, leaving at least nine houses damaged and forcing 56 individuals to seek shelter. Amidst the torrential downpour, a heartbreaking incident unfolded in the Jirania Sub-division of the West District, where a six-year-old child lost their life. According to a report from the State Emergency Operation Centre, on July 1st, one house suffered severe damage, and eight others were partially affected.

To provide immediate relief, the District Administration swiftly established a shelter house at Pratapgarh English Medium School in Agartala. This shelter is currently accommodating 20 families, comprising 56 individuals who were forced to evacuate their homes due to flooding. The administration is working diligently to supply these families with food, water, and other essential relief materials.

In addition, a devastating landslide occurred in the Shilghati area of the Gomati district, trapping two individuals under the soil. Tragically, a six-year-old girl named Sajeda Aktar lost her life, while a five-year-old child named Alisha Begam sustained injuries and is now receiving treatment at Gomati District Hospital.

Furthermore, authorities have issued a warning of possible thunderstorms with lightning in isolated areas across all districts of Tripura for the following day, emphasising the importance of caution and preparedness.

In another heartbreaking incident, a six-year-old girl named Sajeda Begam lost her life when a substantial portion of a hillock collapsed near her home in Kakraban. Another individual, Hasina Begam, sustained injuries and is presently recovering at Gomati District Hospital in Udaipur.

The people of Tripura are grappling with the aftermath of these devastating natural disasters. Local authorities are working tirelessly to provide aid, rescue those affected, and ensure the safety of the community. As the state strives to recover from these unfortunate events, support and solidarity from neighbouring regions are crucial in helping Tripura rebuild and heal.
