The palpable pall of tension hangs heavy over Dhanpur as BJP readied itself for  protest rally on Wednesday against CPM violence during opposition leader Manik Sarkar’s visit.

Union Minister Pratima Bhoumik is scheduled to fly down here to lead the BJP agitation. There were also reports that CPM cadres – with a renewed vigour following Monday’s incident -were also being prepared to face the BJP activists and would not mind to go for ‘aggressive resistance’ if so required. The police administration sensing the mood of the political rivals were also leaving no stone unturned and reinforcement was done to pre-empt and prevent any untoward incident.

In the meantime the CPM held Police responsible for violence at Dhanpur on Monday. The party also alleged BJP workers were attacking the CPM party leaders and workers at different places in the sub-division. Addressing a press meet in Sonamura on Tuesday, sub-divisional secretary of CPM Ratan Saha urged the administration to ensure democratic ambience and peace in the area.

Ratan Saha alleged, BJP activists assaulted Kanthalia Local Committee secretary of CPM, Subhash Deb last night in Dhanpur Assembly constituency area. Besides, miscreants threw bombs at CPM Party Office in Kanthalia last night. Tension is running high in the area as BJP is gearing up to hold a protest programme in the area, Saha said.

Narrating the attack of Das, Ratan Saha said, miscreants barged into the house of Subhas Das and thrashed him on Monday night. Das is suffering from a critical disease. He was rushed to GB Hospital later with serious injuries. Opposition Leader Manik Sarkar went to GB Hospital to inspect his health condition. Sarkar inquired about the treatment of Das and talked to the physicians.

Saha also alleged, Police are arresting CPM leaders and workers in connection with Monday violence.

Political mercury rose over a political programme of CPM in Dhanpur area in which Manik Sarkar was scheduled to take part. Accompanied by a large number of party cadres, Sarkar faced resistance at a couple of places. According to CPM sources, Police were inactive and favouring the BJP supporters who attempted to block Manik Sarkar from attending the programme at Kanthalia. CPM supporters outnumbered the resisting BJP activists and in the melee, several party workers were injured.

It was alleged, CPM supporters did not spare even the elderly and non-political persons.
