The High Court of Tripura has expressed strong disapproval over the delayed filing of a chargesheet in a ganja smuggling case, resulting in the release of the accused on bail. Justice Arindam Lodh was particularly displeased with the Churaibari police station’s failure to submit the chargesheet within the stipulated 180 days following the arrest of Mohidul Islam, the truck driver caught with the illegal consignment. Consequently, the special NDPS court in Dharmanagar granted bail to the offender on July 22.
Justice Lodh summoned the Investigating Officer (IO) to understand the reason for the delay. Upon reviewing the case, he noted the IO’s lack of vigilance and diligence and directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to take appropriate action against the negligent officer to prevent future lapses.
Senior advocate Subrata Sarkar represented the driver in this case.
