Guwahati: Guwahatis Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport has added five new domestic connectivities and one international connectivity for the winter schedule29 October 2023 to 31 March 2024.

The airport handled 508,025 passengers, while it was 461,649 in October 2022.

The number of aircraft operating at the airport also increased in October, with total scheduled flights at 3,706, which was 3,640 in 2022.

Furthermore, on October 21st, Guwahati Airport facilitated a total of 18,175 passengers, with 9,259 departing and 8,916 arriving. This marks the highest figure recorded in this fiscal year.

As part of the upcoming winter schedule, new flights will be introduced to destinations including Bhubaneswar, Amritsar, Coimbatore, Kochi, and Varanasi. Additionally, in December, international flights to Bangkok will also be operating from Guwahati airport, alongside existing services to Singapore and Paro.

The recently appointed airport operator, GIAL, anticipates a surge in both passenger numbers and flight operations during the winter season.

Commenting on the October figures, Chief Airport Officer Utpal Baruah said, Air connectivity stands out as the most dependable and convenient mode of transportation from the Northeast, which explains the notable double-digit growth. Particularly heartening is the rise in tourist influx to the region and the growing interest from foreign countries in the perishable products originating from the Northeast. Anticipated further growth in traffic is on the horizon.
