The state government has taken initiative to reserve posts for sports persons in government jobs in order to encourage the youth of the state in sports and decision on this will be taken soon in the state cabinet. Yesterday, in a press conference held at the Secretariat press conference hall, Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports Sushanta Chowdhury highlighted the success of different infrastructural developments of the Sports Department. He said that different states of the country such as Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Manipur, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha etc. have policies to reserve posts for players in government jobs. The state government will take a decision in this regard after reviewing it.
In the press conference, the Minister of Youth Affairs and Sports said that the state-of-the-art swimming pool is under construction at Regional College of Physical Education,Panisagar and 95 percent work has been completed. The construction of synthetic turf for football at the cost of Rs. 5 crore in the Khowai H.S school ground under the Khelo India scheme is about tocomplete. The construction of synthetic turf for athletics at Dasarath DebMemorial Stadium at a cost of Rs 7 crore is also nearing completion.
In the press conference, the minister also said that 20 crore rupees have been given to the sports department from special assistance of the state government for the construction of football synthetic turf at 4 places in the state. They are – Umakanta Football Synthetic Turf, SachindraNagar Higher Secondary School Ground Football Synthetic Turf in Jirania, Football Synthetic Turf in Tulakona, Mohanpur and Football Synthetic Turf in Belonia School Ground. 5 crores rupees will be spent on each and they are nearing completion.
The minister also said that recently the central government has sanctioned17 crore50 lakh rupeesfor developing the state’s sports infrastructure. This money will be used to construct a hockey synthetic turf at Dasarath Deb Stadium, a synthetic football turf at Jampuijala and a synthetic turf for athletics at Panisagar.In the press conference, the Minister said that according to the decision of the state cabinet meeting, the process of recruiting 100 junior physical educators is underway. Secretary of Youth Affairs and Sports Department Dr. Pradip Chakraboty was also present at the press conference.
