The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment organised a Synergy Summit in collaboration with Artificial Limbs Corporation of India (ALIMCO) in New Delhi today. The summit emphasised on increasing the production of assistive devices and dealerships with the state government in partnership with PMDK for persons with disabilities and senior citizens. ALIMCO, under PMDK initiative, has procured 23 lakh assistive devices to Divyangjan and six lakh devices to senior citizens in the country.
Speaking at the summit, Praveen Kumar, Chairman and Managing Director of ALIMCO, said that currently 78 Pradhan Mantri Divyasha Kendras. PMDK, are operational and the organisation aims to open more such centres. He said ALIMCO has decided to take the number of centres to 300 within 100 km of range by 2029. Mr Kumar also highlighted the working of AASRA service centres to provide after sale services to the persons with disabilities. ALIMCO has announced plans to include three wheeler electric scooty and improved motorised tricycle for persons with disabilities. This upcoming model will facilitate easy access to the vehicle without the need for licensing.
