Tripura government will soon introduce a policy to meet the demand of blood with a focus on institutional blood donation.
The initiative is going to set a new trend as patients’ relatives will now be encouraged for blood donation, apart from the voluntary blood donations in other forms.
Apart from preparing a calendar, the government’s policy will also include the caesarean delivery cases.
The state records approximately 40,000 caesarean deliveries per year, for which a large requirement of blood is there.
Almost all the delivery cases, in case of caesar, are pre-scheduled. As per the plan, the members in the families of the expectant mothers and their relatives will be encouraged to donate two units of blood advance–which means 80,000 units of blood. It will not only meet the demand of blood but also enable the state to send blood to other states in case of requirement. Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb spoke about the plan in a blood donation camp organized by the Health and Family Welfare department at Muktadhara auditorium on Friday last. In this context, Deb stressed on proper management.
Meanwhile, Tripura is probably the only state in the country that records that much of blood donation round the year. But, still, the state faces shortage of blood sometimes and such efforts don’t get any recognition.In Tripura, blood donation has now turned into a festival. Different clubs and social organisations as well as many of the individuals go for blood donation on various occasions.
