The Government has said that 11.41 crore rural households have tap water supply in their homes. In a written reply to a question in Lok Sabha today, Minister of State for Jal Shakti said, the Government is implementing Jal Jeevan Mission to provide a tap water connection to every rural household in the country by 2024. He said, at the time of the announcement of the Jal Jeevan Mission in 2019, only three crore 23 lakh rural households were reported to have tap water connections.
Mr. Patel said, more than eight crore additional rural households have been provided with tap water connections under the mission. The Minister said, out of around 19 crore rural households in the country, over 58 per cent of households have tap water supply in their homes.
