Govt Extends ECHS Benefits to Medically Boarded-Out Officer Cadets

The Government has approved the extension of the Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS) facility. The scheme facilitates officer cadets who are invalidated from training on medical grounds attributable to or aggravated by military training.
 
The Ministry has taken this measure to reaffirm its commitment to the dignity and well-being of the armed forces. The Ministry of Defence has said that this measure is applicable to cadets who have been medically boarded out prior to completion of training and is also extendable to future similar cases.
 
ECHS was launched in 2003 for Ex-servicemen and their dependents by utilising the existing medical infrastructure of the Armed Forces and private empanelled or government hospitals across the country.
