Guru Purnima festival was organized by Sanskar Bharati Tripura Prant at the Sukanta Academy auditorium on Sunday. Governor Indra Sena Reddy Nallu inaugurated the programme. In his opening address, the Governor highlighted Tripura’s rich cultural heritage, stating that while the state may be small in size, it is immensely rich in culture. He praised the numerous cultural figures from Tripura who have made significant contributions to the national cultural scene.
The Governor also commended Sanskar Bharati for their dedicated efforts in developing the Alpona gram at Lankamura. The event included speeches from several notable personalities, including former Deputy Chief Minister Jishnu Debbarma and Vice-Chancellor of Tripura Central University Gangaprasad Prasen.
During the ceremony, the Governor honored eight cultural Gurus from the state’s eight districts with the Guru Samman award. Certificates were also distributed to teachers and students who participated in various cultural workshops. Suman Bhattacharya, general secretary of Sanskar Bharati Tripura Prant, delivered the welcome address, while the vote of thanks was given by president Pandit Subal Biswas. The event concluded with an impressive cultural performance.
As part of the Guru Purnima festival, workshops on Jadu Kalija, the traditional music of Tripura, were launched in various student hostels and Kalyan ashrams in Agartala. These week-long workshops saw the participation of about two hundred students, whose enthusiasm was evident. The goal of these workshops is to preserve and cultivate future generations of this historical and traditional music. This initiative is the first significant effort in Tripura to discover hidden talents, train them, and bring them into the spotlight.
Additionally, students from Tarapur School in Mohanpur were taught folk songs, dances, and paintings through workshops organized by the Sanskar Bharati West Tripura District Committee.
Sanskar Bharati has been active in Tripura since the 1990s and was officially established in the state in 2004. A nationalist all-India organization committed to preserving, identifying, and enriching Sanatan culture and heritage, Sanskar Bharati works across eight disciplines: painting, sculpture, literature, drama, bhualankaran (decoration), archaeology, dance, and music. The organization has equipped many villages in Tripura through its workshops, fostering a deep appreciation for the state’s cultural heritage.
