Must Read

The government has imposed stock limits on wheat to manage the overall food security and to prevent hoarding and unscrupulous speculation. The stock limits will apply to traders and wholesalers, retailers, big chain retailers and processors in all States and Union Territories. Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Ministry said that the stock limit for the traders and wholesalers was three thousand metric tonnes, which has been reduced to two thousand metric tonnes in the revised stock limit. Similarly, the stock limit for the retailers will be eight metric tonnes. The Ministry has asked all wheat stocking entities to declare and update the stock position on every Friday on the wheat stock portal. As part of continuous efforts to moderate prices of wheat before the upcoming festive season, the government has decided to revise the Wheat Stock limit applicable until 31st March next year. The Ministry informed that a total production of over one thousand 175 lakh tonnes of wheat was recorded during the crop year 2024-25, and there is ample availability of wheat in the country. The Central Government has procured over 300 lakh tonnes of wheat in the Rabi Marketing Season 2025-26 through State Agencies and the Food Corporation of India, which is sufficient to meet the requirement.  The Ministry said the Department of Food and Public Distribution is maintaining a close watch over the stock position of wheat to control prices and ensure easy availability in the country.
