15-year-old Indian chess player Goutham Krishna produced an outstanding display on the opening day of the FIDE World Rapid Chess Championships. He defeated three Grandmasters – Aleksander Indjic, Aravindh Chithambaram and Teimour Radjabov, and drew with two others to remain unbeaten on the first day of the World Rapid Chess Championships. As a result of his performance, he gained 6.0 rating points in a single day. At the conclusion of the first day’s play, Goutham stands half a point behind the tournament leaders, Magnus Carlsen, D. Gukesh, and Arjun Erigaisi, placing him among the leading contenders.
