Goa taxi operators protest govt’s cab aggregator app plan, cite threat to livelihoods –

Must Read

Private taxi operators in Goa have opposed the Goa Government’s plan to launch a taxi aggregator app. According to these taxi operators, if services via the app begin, it will adversely impact their taxi business and put the livelihoods of local taxi drivers at risk.

Some taxi operators in Goa have submitted written objections and suggestions regarding the draft proposal for the cab aggregator app. Yesterday, a group of taxi drivers gathered in front of the Junta House office building in Panaji to voice their concerns. Since Section 144 (prohibitory orders) had been imposed by the North Goa District Collector, the taxi drivers submitted their objections to the concerned department in a disciplined manner. A heavy police presence was deployed during the event.

On May 20, the government had notified a draft policy with guidelines for the aggregator app. As part of the process, the authorities gave 30 days for the public and stakeholders to submit suggestions and objections. In response, taxi drivers submitted their inputs yesterday. There are 15 more days remaining for filing further objections and suggestions.
