Ganesh Chaturthi is celebrated in Nepal. For the newar community, it’s primarily a day of home and temple worship and the ritualistic avoidance of looking at the moon on this day. Samaybaji, authentic newari cuisine which consist of boiled egg, fried fish, buffalo choila, bhatmas, chatmari, bara, flattened rice, saag and newari wine Ayla is offered in puja.
Devotees thronged temples dedicated to Lord Ganesh, offering special prayers. All the prominent Ganesh temples in the Kathmandu Valley including Ashok Vinayak, Chandra Vinayak, Surya Binayak, Kamal Binayak and Kamaladi Ganesh Temple had a long queue of devotees waiting for their turn to enter garbhagriha for offering puja. Nepalis fast and worship Lord Ganesh to receive blessings for wisdom, prosperity, and the removal of obstacles in life.
