G7 condemns Iran’s reckless attacks on Gulf nations, warning of serious global security risks. Leaders demand immediate halt to military aggression, highlight threats to energy supply routes, and reaffirm support for regional allies amid escalating Middle East tensions.

In a sharply worded joint statement, the Group of Seven (G7) nations have strongly condemned what they described as “reckless and unjustifiable attacks” carried out by Iran and its proxies across several countries in the Middle East. The statement, issued on Sunday, underscores mounting international concern over escalating tensions that threaten both regional stability and global security.

The G7 Foreign Ministers, representing Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, United Kingdom, and United States, along with the High Representative of the European Union, expressed unwavering solidarity with nations impacted by the recent wave of attacks. These incidents reportedly targeted civilians and critical infrastructure, including energy facilities, across countries such as Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Jordan, and Iraq.

The statement explicitly denounced Iran’s actions as a serious violation of international norms, referencing obligations under United Nations Security Council resolutions. The G7 emphasized that these attacks not only endanger the immediate targets but also undermine broader international peace and stability.

“We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the regime’s reckless attacks against civilians and civilian infrastructure,” the statement noted, adding that such actions represent a direct threat to regional and global security frameworks. The group called for the “immediate and unconditional cessation” of all hostile activities by Iran and affiliated forces.

A major concern highlighted by the G7 is the safety of key maritime routes, particularly the strategically crucial Strait of Hormuz. This narrow passage is one of the world’s most vital arteries for global oil shipments, making it a focal point of geopolitical tensions. Any disruption here could significantly impact global energy markets and international trade.

To mitigate potential fallout, the G7 reaffirmed its readiness to coordinate with the International Energy Agency to ensure stability in energy supply chains. The statement referenced recent decisions by IEA member states to release strategic stockpiles if necessary, signaling preparedness to counter supply shocks.

In addition to immediate security concerns, the G7 reiterated its longstanding stance on Iran’s nuclear ambitions. The group stressed that Iran “must never obtain” nuclear weapons and urged Tehran to halt its ballistic missile program and cease destabilizing activities across the region. The ministers also expressed concern over internal repression within Iran, calling for an end to violence against its own citizens.

At the same time, the G7 underscored the right of affected nations to defend themselves. “We support the right of countries unjustifiably attacked by Iran or its proxies to defend their territories and protect their citizens,” the statement affirmed, reinforcing the group’s commitment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of regional partners.

The joint declaration also addressed recent incidents in Iraq, particularly attacks targeting diplomatic missions and energy infrastructure in the Iraqi Kurdistan Region. These actions, attributed to Iran-backed militias, were described as “brazen” and a direct challenge to international diplomatic norms and regional stability.

The G7’s strong condemnation reflects growing international alarm over escalating hostilities in the Middle East. Analysts warn that continued aggression could trigger wider conflict, disrupt global energy supplies, and deepen geopolitical divisions.

As tensions remain high, the international community is closely watching Iran’s next moves, with calls intensifying for diplomatic engagement alongside firm deterrence measures. The G7’s unified stance signals a coordinated effort among leading global powers to contain the crisis and safeguard international security.
