Sripur GP Bamboo Crafts Unit under TRLM secures Delhi order worth Rs 10,000 after showcasing eco-friendly bamboo products at SARAS Fair, marking a major step in rural entrepreneurship, sustainable livelihoods, and national market expansion.

The Sripur GP Bamboo Crafts and Jewellery Making Unit, operating under the Tripura Rural Livelihood Mission (TRLM) in the Jubarajnagar RD Block, has achieved a significant milestone by successfully entering the national market. What began as a local skill development initiative has now transformed into a promising livelihood opportunity for rural artisans, showcasing the growing strength of grassroots entrepreneurship in Tripura.

The artisans of the Sripur GP unit underwent structured training focused on innovative bamboo-based products and handcrafted jewellery. Through consistent effort and creative experimentation, the group developed a range of eco-friendly items, including bamboo mobile stands, decorative accessories, bamboo lamps, cups, and handmade jewellery pieces. These products reflect a blend of traditional craftsmanship and modern utility, appealing to environmentally conscious consumers.

A major breakthrough came during the 3rd District SARAS Fair, where the unit displayed its products to a wider audience. The quality and design of the bamboo lamps attracted the attention of a Delhi-based buyer, who placed a confirmed order for 25 bamboo lamps valued at Rs 10,000. This order marks the first major interstate commercial transaction for the group, highlighting their readiness to compete beyond local markets.

The bamboo lamps have now been carefully packed and prepared for dispatch to the national capital. Once delivered, they are expected to be shared among friends, colleagues, and professional networks in Delhi, creating valuable exposure for the Sripur artisans. Officials believe this visibility could lead to repeat orders and long-term business relationships outside Tripura.

In addition to the confirmed order, the SARAS Fair generated strong interest in other products made by the group. Bulk enquiries for handmade jewellery and bamboo cups indicate a growing demand for sustainable, handcrafted goods. This trend aligns with the increasing preference for eco-friendly alternatives across urban markets in India.

Officials associated with TRLM described the achievement as a proud moment, emphasizing that it reflects both the dedication of the artisans and the institutional support provided through training, mentoring, and market linkage. The success of the Sripur GP unit stands as an inspiring example of how rural skill development initiatives can empower communities, strengthen local economies, and connect small producers to national markets.
