A team of AGMC doctors led by Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharjee, in-charge of the Cardio Thoracic and Vascular Surgery and Interventional Radiology department, successfully conducted a highly critical Open Heart Surgery on Thursday. It took long five hours to complete the operation. The surgery was done at free of cost under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Madhabi Rani Das (46) of resident of Udaipur, had complained of severe breathing problem and the AGMC doctors diagnosed that she had developed a major atrial defect in the heart which would need Open Heart operations.
It was then under the leadership of Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharjee the new CTVS department of the AGMC swung into action. The team included Anaesthesiologist Dr. Surajit Paul, Medical Officer Dr. Abhishek Debbarma, Perfusionist SUjan Sahu, Physician Assistant Sudipta Mandal, Scrub Nurse Jahir Hossain, Arpita Sarkar, Sourav Shil, Mousumi Debnath, OT assistant Ratan Mandal, Jaydip Chakraborty, Amrit Murasingh, Coordinator Abhishek Dutta, Richashree Sarkar, Kisan Roy and others.
According to an official release, the Open Heart Surgery was performed in the hospital for the first time after the formation of the CTVS and IR department. Principal of AGMC- Dr. Manjushri Roy, Medical Superintendent of GB hospital- Dr. Sanjib Debbarma, cardiac surgeon Dr. Kanak Narayan Bhattacharjee and others held a press conference on Friday and thanked Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb and Union Minister of State- Pratima Bhowmik for their role in introducing the new department.
