Four Congress MPs suspended for Parliament session, Lok Sabha adjourned for the dayCongress MPs

Four MPs of the Congress were suspended from the Lok Sabha for the remainder of Monsoon Session for disrupting the proceedings of the House.

The decision came as Opposition MPs continued to protest against GST hike and price rise on Monday, the first day of the second week of the session.

“Some MPs are continuously showing placards in front of the Chair which is against the dignity of the House. Speaker has also warned you, I am repeating it. Please stop showing placards or the Chair will have no option,” said Rajendra Agrawal, who was in the chair at 3 pm when the Lok Sabha met after an adjournment amid Opposition protests.

He said the action was being taken under Rule 374, for obstructing the proceedings of the House and disregarding the Chair.

Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi moved the motion for their suspension, which was approved by a majority of members through voice vote.

Joshi said the members showed “utter disregard to house and authority of chair” and had been named and warned by the Speaker.

The MPs were suspended from the House for the remainder of Monsoon Session.

The House was then adjourned for the day.

Earlier, the House faced an adjournment shortly after meeting at 2 pm, as Opposition MPs staged protest raising slogans and showing placards over GST rate hike and continuing price rise.

Opposition MPs have been protesting on the issue since the Monsoon session started last Monday, and have demanded for a discussion on price rise.
