Ending all speculations and his personal uncertainty former Tripura Pradesh Congress president Pijush Kanti Biswas officially joined Trinamool Congress on Wednesday in New Deli. Some of his close political associates like Tejen Das, Ananta Banerjee, Bimal Rudra Paul, Purnita Chakma and Samarendra Ghosh also joined the Trinamool Congress with Biswas. They were welcomed by Trinamool supremo Mamata Banerjee, national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee. Senior leaders who are looking after Tripura matters like Rajib Banerjee, Susmita Dev were also present in the joining programme.
The state unit of Trinamool Congress was running virtually truncated as there was no senior leader from the state who could garner some support for the party here. Former president Subal Bhowmik was sidelined and he virtually stands nowhere and keeping a low profile. The Trinamool affairs were looked after in the state by all intents and purposes fly by night Kolkata leaders as if West Bengal Trinamool was running a franchisee here.
However, this time with Pijush Biswas joining the Trinamool there are indications that he would be made the president of the party here and bestowed with the task to sail the party through elections.
The official release added, “Pijush Kanti Biswas has had a distinguished political and judicial career and held important designations including Assistant Solicitor General of India, former president of the High Court Bar Council and former chief of National Students’ Union of India”.
Welcoming the senior leaders to the party’s fold, AITC Tripura tweeted: “Our family strengthens! With an aim to work for the betterment of Tripura, former INC State President Pijush Kanti Biswas joined our Trinamool family today. We wholeheartedly welcome him to our party!”
The other inductees to the AITC family in Tripura include advocates Tejen Das, Ananta Banerjee, Bimal Rudra Paul, Purnita Chakma and Samarendra Ghosh
While Tejen Das and Ananta Banerjee have been former general secretaries of Tripura Pradesh Congress, Purnita Chakma has been a former working president of Tripura Congress. Samarendra Ghosh, meanwhile, has previously worked as the former General Secretary of Tripura Youth Congress.
