From now on an MLA will have to complete five years as the legislature to be entitled for pension and other benefits. Earlier, any MLA once elected and sworn as MLA used to get full pension and other benefits even if he or she did not complete a full term –that is five years -for any reason.

The state cabinet on Tuesday has revised the previous decision; now the existing and upcoming MLAs have to complete one-term in the position to avail various facilities.

“As per the new decision, an MLA has to complete a minimum one-term as an MLA to get various facilities. In case, he or she fails to become MLA in the next election, the person will be entitled to get all facilities,” ICA minister Sushanta Chowdhury told the media.

During the tenure of the previous government, there was a rule that the MLAs, who completed a four-year term and then failed to become MLA, were entitled to get the benefits.

But, after the formation of the BJP-IPFT government, a cabinet decision was taken according to which if any MLA holds the post even for one day; he/ she was supposed to get all facilities. Now, the state government amended the decision, Chowdhury added.

Meanwhile, the decision came two days after MLA Ashis Das’ exit from the BJP and joining to TMC.

The council of ministers on Tuesday approved creation of 12 posts for recruitment in the court of Additional District and Sessions Jusge, Sabroom.

The twelve posts included Additional District and Sessions Judge, Gr-I of Tripura Judicial Service (1), Office Superintendent (1), Head Clark (1), Junior Grade Stenographer PA (2), UDC (1), LD Clerk (2), Senior sheristadar (1) and Group-D (3) under the Law department.

Addressing the media, Chowdhury said that the Covid Positivity Rate had increased in West Tripura district following the rally of a political party with gathering of a good number of people from outside the state.

“According to a report from the Principal Secretary (Health), the Covid Positivity Rate has increased from 0.40 percent (last week) to 0.72 percent (today) in West Tripura district. The rally was attended by a good number of people from outside the state,” Chowdhury said.
