In the wake of the torrential rains that have battered the capital town of Agartala and other parts of Tripura, the situation has become increasingly dire, especially in low-lying areas. The incessant rainfall, which began on Monday morning, has led to a sharp rise in the water level of the Haora River, resulting in widespread flooding across several regions. The floods have caused significant damage, submerging homes, displacing residents, and inflicting extensive harm on agricultural lands in West Tripura district.

On Tuesday, MLA and Mayor of Agartala Municipal Corporation, Dipak Majumder, took stock of the flood situation, visiting multiple affected areas to assess the damage and oversee relief efforts. Among the hardest-hit areas is South Ramnagar, where many homes were inundated as floodwaters surged into the community. In response, Majumder and local authorities have initiated urgent rescue operations, relocating a number of residents from South Ramnagar to a nearby school that has been converted into a temporary shelter.

During his visit, Majumder emphasized that the government is taking all necessary steps to ensure the safety and well-being of the affected population. He acknowledged the challenges faced by residents, particularly those who have been forced to abandon their homes. To support these individuals, food items are being distributed to families who are unable to cook due to the floodwaters that have invaded their kitchens. The Sadar district administration is currently conducting a thorough assessment of the affected areas and families to determine the extent of the damage and to guide the ongoing relief efforts.

Majumder also noted that Tripura’s Chief Minister, Dr. Manik Saha, is closely monitoring the situation. The state government is committed to taking appropriate and timely actions to prioritize public safety and mitigate the impact of the flooding. The Mayor assured the public that the administration is fully engaged in rescue operations and in providing necessary aid to those in need.

The floods have caused substantial disruption in Agartala, with numerous homes submerged under water and agricultural lands devastated in West Tripura district. The rising waters of the Haora River have exacerbated the situation, leading to widespread damage across various regions of the state. In response, teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) have been deployed to assist in the rescue operations, working alongside local authorities to evacuate stranded residents and provide emergency relief.
