In a significant development on January 15, 2024, five NLFT (PD group) extremists surrendered with a cache of arms and ammunition in North Tripura.

The surrendered people were identified as Netajoy Reang, Mohonda Reang, Sukumar Reang, Kiranjit Reang, and Bishnuram Reang. The surrendered items included a.22 Chinese pistol, two.22 China-made rifles, 17 live rounds, 10mm shotgun shells, a Walkie-talkie with charging port, Bangladeshi currency (770 taka), Bangladeshi mobile SIM cards (2), extortion notices (5), and extortion receipts (5).

The surrender took place at the SB Headquarters before Krishnendu Chakravertty, IPS, DIGP (Intelligence), at 2:30 PM. The move is seen as a positive step towards curbing insurgencies and fostering peace in the region. The extremists, hailing from various locations in North Tripura District, expressed their willingness to reintegrate into society.

This surrender marks a continued effort by the authorities to dismantle insurgent groups and encourage individuals to return to the mainstream.

The recovered arms and ammunition will contribute to efforts to enhance security in the area. The event underscores the ongoing commitment to maintaining law and order and fostering a secure environment in North Tripura.
