First Dengue-related casualty of the year was reported from the Dhanpur area within the Sonamura sub-division, sending ripples of concern through the community. The victim, Subhas Sarkar, a 72-year-old resident of Shankhamura in Dhanpur, succumbed to the illness late Tuesday night.
As the Sub-divisional Medical Officer in-charge, Dr. Rakesh Das, revealed, the number of dengue-affected patients in the Sonamura sub-division escalated to 170 on Wednesday. This alarming rise prompted two patients from various healthcare centers to be referred to the GB Hospital for further treatment.
In response to the unfortunate death, a pivotal administrative meeting was convened at the Sonamura Community Health Centre (CHC). The gathering, which included key stakeholders such as the Commissioner of the Sonamura Nagar Panchayat and several administrative officials, aimed to comprehensively assess the evolving situation in the sub-division.
Urgent and strategic measures have been put into action across healthcare facilities in the region. The Sonamura and Kathalia CHCs, along with PHCs in Dhanpur, Microsapara, Nidaya, and other health centers, have implemented specialized protocols to address the Dengue outbreak.
Relatives of the deceased, Subhas Sarkar, shared that he was admitted to the Sonamura CHC on the night of July 27 after exhibiting symptoms of illness. Subsequent diagnostic tests revealed Sarkar’s affliction with Dengue fever. Despite doctors’ recommendation to transfer him to the GB Hospital due to his advanced age and underlying health issues, Sarkar chose to return to his residence in Dhanpur. As his condition worsened, he was transported to Hapania Hospital in the early hours of July 27.
With his health deteriorating further, Sarkar was transferred to a private hospital on July 30, where he tragically passed away late Tuesday night.
In a collective effort to curb the spread of Dengue fever, a series of proactive measures have been undertaken by the administration. These include awareness campaigns targeting the populace, intensive cleanliness drives, and extensive fogging operations. The Sonamura Nagar Panchayat area has established Monitoring Committees to vigilantly monitor the situation and proactively mitigate the risk of Dengue outbreaks.
The State health department is at the forefront of containment efforts, actively collaborating with the community and emphasizing the importance of vigilance and cooperation in bringing the situation under control. Residents are urged to remain cautious, follow recommended precautions, and promptly seek medical attention if symptoms arise.
