The Tripura State Election Commission has released the final voter list for the forthcoming three-tier Panchayat elections, scheduled to take place in the first week of August. State Election Commissioner Saradindu Chaudhuri announced on Tuesday that the updated electoral roll includes a total of 12,94,060 voters, of which 6,35,460 are women.

Commissioner Chaudhuri stated that the preparations for the elections to Gram Panchayats, Nagar Panchayats, and Zilla Parishads have been completed. The final electoral roll is now available, and any appeals regarding the roll can be filed during the nomination process. The elections will be conducted across eight Zilla Parishads, 35 Nagar Panchayats, and 591 Gram Panchayats. However, it was clarified that these elections will only occur in the general areas, as the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) has its own set of rural bodies under the 6th Schedule of the Constitution.

The State Election Commissioner confirmed that the commission is fully prepared to hold the polls, with the dates likely to be announced in the first week of July. Chaudhuri also mentioned plans to meet with top police officials to discuss security deployment and to convene an all-party meeting to ensure smooth conduct of the elections.

Political parties in Tripura are gearing up for active participation in the elections. The ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), along with opposition parties such as the Communist Party of India (Marxist) [CPI(M)] and Congress, have all expressed their intention to contest the elections, indicating a robust and competitive political environment.

The release of the final voter list marks a the first step towards the democratic process, ensuring that eligible voters have the opportunity to participate in the governance at the grassroots level. The commission’s efforts in preparing for the elections are aimed at facilitating a fair and transparent electoral process, contributing to the strengthening of local governance in Tripura.
