Final Randoli Perahera of Kandy Esala Festival Concludes on Nikini Poya

Must Read

The Final Randoli Perahera of the Kandy Esala Perahera was held with devotion at the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, drawing thousands of devotees to the hill town in Central Sri Lanka. President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, along with ministers and dignitaries, attended the grand procession, which marked the conclusion of the 10-day annual festival on Nikini Poya day.

The Temple enshrines the sacred tooth relic of the Buddha, believed to have been brought from India in the 4th century CE and revered as the living Buddha himself. The relic is carried in a casket atop a caparisoned tusker, accompanied by dancers, drummers, whip crackers, and performers from various devalas, blending centuries-old traditions.

The Esala Perahera is one of Sri Lanka’s most significant religious and cultural events, symbolising devotion, heritage, and the preservation of Buddhist rituals that have continued unbroken for over 1,500 years.
